New Cohort of Bachelor of Indigenous Education Program Begins This Fall at Suncrest College

YORKTON, SK — Suncrest College, in partnership with First Nations University of Canada, is pleased to announce the launch of a new cohort of the Bachelor of Indigenous Education program this September at the Yorkton campus, with a remote option available in Melfort.

This four-year degree program is open to all students and blends Indigenous content, land-based learning, and hands-on classroom experience every semester. Upon graduation, students are certified to teach at the elementary or secondary level in Saskatchewan. Bringing the remote option to Melfort helps expand access to this unique program for students in northeast Saskatchewan, allowing them to stay closer to home while pursuing their degree.

“We are proud to continue this important partnership with First Nations University of Canada,” said Teri Thompson, Suncrest College Vice President of Academics and Learner Engagement. “The Bachelor of Indigenous Education program not only prepares future educators for meaningful careers in the classroom, but also plays a vital role in promoting Indigenous knowledge, culture, and reconciliation through education. Our graduates are now teaching in both urban schools and in schools in various local First Nation communities across the province, which we are very proud of.”

This program offers a unique opportunity for individuals to train locally and teach anywhere, supporting access to post-secondary education across the region. Students in the program benefit from smaller class sizes, personalized instruction, and opportunities to connect with their communities through experiential and land-based learning.

Applications are now open, and classes will begin in September 2025. Prospective students are encouraged to visit suncrestcollege.ca for more information or contact Alisa Perkins, Advisor, at 306-786-2595.
