Suncrest College highlights nearly 20 years of international work during IDW 2025

YORKTON, SK — This week, Suncrest College is shining a spotlight on work done internationally through the College.

Since 1991, International Development Week is held annually in the first full week of February and spotlights Canadians' contributions to eradicating poverty and building a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous world. Suncrest College has been partnering and working on international development projects for many years, dating back to 2006.

Through work with the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) and funded by Global Affairs Canada, these ventures have given Suncrest College a solid background in and reputation across Canada for being a regular partner for international projects.

“Our College has a strong background in student supports and working with underrepresented groups. In a world that is challenged with inequities, it is meaningful to focus on the common goal of improving education through holistic and supported learning, so it is inclusive and accessible to all,” said Kami DePape, Suncrest College Vice President of Partnerships & Innovation.

Since the beginning of Suncrest’s international work, our staff and students have participated in a total of five major projects, which started in Kenya and continued with Tanzania, Jamaica, Belize and most recently two new projects starting in South Africa.

Suncrest is excited to learn from our South African partners in the South Africa Skills Training Enhancement Program (SASTEP). SASTEP strives to increase economic opportunities for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates in Eastern Cape and Limpopo provinces with a special focus on women and people with disabilities.

During this International Development Week, Suncrest College will be highlighting the work that has been done across the world, with the College on its social media pages, as well as within the halls of the College, showcasing past stories, along with photos and testimonials of those who have experienced the international projects.
