Suncrest College celebrates 20th Firefighting graduation

MELVILLE — On Friday, Suncrest College celebrated its Firefighting graduation class at both Melville’s CN Community Centre and the Saskatchewan Emergency Response Institute (SERI).

Ten students walked the stage, becoming professional firefighters in the process. The latest intake was Suncrest College’s 20th Platoon, and 20th graduation class overall in the program’s history. The graduates spent the majority of their time at SERI, Saskatchewan’s only firefighting training centre, located just outside of Melville.

“With the demand on the rise for professional firefighting, Suncrest has a very important role to play in the safety of our province now, and into the future,” stated Suncrest College President & CEO, Alison Dubreuil. “Being able to offer this highly specialized program benefits not only our local communities but our province as a whole.”

Suncrest College also celebrated the graduates with awards and scholarship recognition and heard from local leadership such as Melville-Saltcoats MLA Warren Kaeding, Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency Fire Marshall Wayne Rodger as well as a message from Dubreuil.

The College now turns its attention to the 21st Platoon, with applications open now. You can learn more about the Professional Firefighting Qualifications program at SuncrestCollege.ca. Applications opened on August 1st.
