Keeseekoose First Nation, SK – June 24, 2026
Suncrest College is proud to celebrate the achievements of graduates from its Bachelor of Indigenous Education program, delivered in partnership with First Nations University of Canada, who are making a meaningful impact at the Keeseekoose Chiefs Education Complex (KCEC).
KCEC, a K–12 school serving over 200 students, is home to a dedicated team of teachers, eight of whom are graduates of Suncrest College’s Bachelor of Indigenous Education program. Their commitment to education and their community exemplifies the program’s goal: preparing educators who will return to their home communities and contribute to the growth and strength of future generations.
Offered in partnership with First Nations University of Canada, the Bachelor of Indigenous Education program is open to all students and prepares graduates to teach in schools across Saskatchewan. The degree offers a unique learning experience through required experiential learning opportunities, including at least one internship placement within a First Nations school, helping future educators gain meaningful experience in Indigenous education settings and build culturally responsive teaching practices.
“Seeing our graduates remain in their home communities after completing their education is exactly why we exist,” said Teri Thompson, Vice President of Academics at Suncrest College. “Our goal is to strengthen communities by ensuring they have skilled and educated individuals who are ready to give back to the next generation.”
KCEC Principal, Sara Ann Keshane, emphasizes the importance of having the program accessible close to the community. “Having a program like this within reach allows our future teachers to pursue higher education without leaving their support networks. It also ensures we are able to staff our school with highly trained individuals who are already connected to our school community,” she said.
Graduates of the program often highlight the value of learning in a small-college environment, where close relationships with instructors and classmates create opportunities for mentorship, confidence building, and meaningful professional connections that continue into their careers.
Suncrest College is currently accepting applications for the Bachelor of Indigenous Education program for Fall 2026. Students interested in pursuing a career in education and making an impact in communities across Saskatchewan are encouraged to apply.
Suncrest College’s Bachelor of Indigenous Education program continues to prepare learners to become educators who strengthen communities and serve as positive role models for Indigenous youth.
