Good Spirit School Division Think Trades Event at Suncrest College a Huge Success

Yorkton, SK – March 19, 2026

The Good Spirit School Division Think Trades event at Suncrest College was a huge success this week, welcoming more than 120 high school students for a day of hands-on learning and career exploration in the skilled trades.

Students from Melville, Yorkton, Canora, Kamsack, Esterhazy, Churchbridge, Langenburg, Sturgis, Norquay, Keeseekoose First Nation, and Cote First Nation attended the event, which provided an engaging and hands-on look at trades training and career opportunities.

Throughout the day, students participated in campus tours and interactive activities connected to Suncrest College’s trades programs, including welding, industrial mechanics, heavy equipment truck and transport mechanics, agricultural equipment mechanics, and power engineering. Sessions were led by Suncrest College instructors, with current students on hand to answer questions and share their firsthand experiences in the programs.

“The goal is to connect students with career pathways and opportunities,” said Mike Haczkewicz, Career Education Liaison with the Good Spirit School Division. “Events like this help students better understand what’s available to them and how they can get there.”

In addition to exploring programs, students had the opportunity to meet and network with approximately a dozen employers from a variety of trades industries, gaining insight into real-world career prospects.

“The employers in attendance are some of the key organizations that hire our graduates,” said Jenna Niebergall, Manager of Public Relations and Marketing at Suncrest College. “This event created a valuable opportunity for current students, prospective students, and industry to connect.

“We know the trades offer incredible career potential. It’s important to give students the chance to experience what these careers look like firsthand and to see the types of jobs and employers that are out there.”

The Think Trades event is part of Suncrest College’s ongoing efforts to strengthen connections between education, industry, and community, while supporting the development of a skilled workforce across the region.
