YORKTON, SK — Suncrest College is proud to celebrate Inside Innovation Week by spotlighting the transformative work happening across its dynamic Centre for Applied Research and Innovation at Suncrest (CARIS). Through CARIS, Suncrest College is forging meaningful collaborations with local businesses, organizations, and communities to tackle real-world challenges, fuel economic growth, and create lasting social impact — benefiting students, industry, and faculty alike.
"Inside Innovation is a time to celebrate the powerful role applied research plays in fostering economic activity in our province,” says Kami DePape, Suncrest College Vice President, Partnerships & Innovation. “At Suncrest, we’re not just observing innovation — we’re actively participating in it."
The CARIS is made up of several innovative divisions, each contributing unique strengths to the college’s research ecosystem:
Research Farm: Serving as a living laboratory, the Research Farm allows for hands-on agricultural research focused on sustainability, precision farming, and Agri-tech applications.
Other Ag Initiatives: From soil health to new crop varieties, our agricultural division explores cutting-edge practices and technologies to advance the region's vital ag sector.
Social Innovation: Addressing complex social challenges, this division works closely with communities to design inclusive, evidence-based solutions that improve lives.
Innovation Hub: A collaborative space where entrepreneurs, startups, and faculty come together to test ideas, prototype solutions, and launch innovations that matter.
Experiential Learning: Providing students with real-world research experiences, this division bridges classroom learning with practical applications - preparing the next generation of innovators.

About Suncrest College: Suncrest College was established in 2023 as a result of merging Cumberland College and Parkland College. The college offers a superior learning experience with locations in Canora, Esterhazy, Fort Qu’Appelle, Kamsack, Melfort, Melville, Nipawin, Tisdale, and Yorkton. Students can choose from a wide array of educational options, including university degrees, skills training diplomas and certificates, trades training, high school upgrading, employability programs, safety training, corporate/professional development, along with taking part in various applied research projects led by the College.
