Chandler graduated from Tisdale Middle and Secondary School in 2011. She knew she wanted a degree in Agriculture but wasn’t ready to leave home. Having the ability to take her first year of university at Cumberland was a good way to begin her career plans. Chandler said that she was taking most of the same classes as her friends on campus so could still relate to what they were learning but was able to adjust to university work without worrying about the responsibilities that come with moving away from your parents.

Other than staying at home, Chandler said she appreciated a number of things about attending Cumberland College. She enjoyed the smaller class sizes and the friendly learning environment with an opportunity to build relationships and receive one-on-one help from professors. Her student advisor met with her before she started her year to go over class selection and various delivery options. Chandler even took some SK Polytechnic classes which were eligible to transfer to her University of Saskatchewan degree. Cumberland’s scholarship program was a definite bonus too!

After her year at Cumberland College, Chandler moved to Saskatoon to finish the last three years of her B.Sc. in Agribusiness convocating in 2015. Chandler currently lives in Saskatoon and works for Scoular Canada Ltd as a Junior Grain Buyer/Administrative Assistant. She plans to continue working in the agriculture sector and to continue learning as she goes.

Chandlers advice to current and future students is to Use your resources! Apply for all of the scholarships including both Cumberland scholarships and those from the school you are taking your degree from like the U of S. Don’t be afraid to ask your professors and instructors for help as they are there to help you succeed, plus chances are someone else has the same question or would appreciate the clarity.

In a province significantly driven by the agriculture sector, it is wonderful to see home-grown talent continue to formulate our future. Congratulations Chandler on your successes and thank you for choosing Cumberland College to launch your post-secondary path.
