Standard First Aid
Standard First Aid is required prior to the start of the program and must be current to the year of the program.
CPR Level “C” AED or equivalent
CPR Level “C” AED or equivalent is required prior to the start of the program and must be current to the year of the program.
Transferring Lifting Repositioning (TLR®) Object Moving Certification
Accepted applicants will be required to provide evidence of Transferring Lifting Repositioning (TLR®) Object Moving certification or Safe Moving and Repositioning Techniques (SMART®) certification upon admission to the program. TLR® or SMART® certification is valid for three (3) years from the date of completion. Recertification may be required during your studies. The cost of TLR® or SMART® certification is your responsibility.
WHMIS Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Certification
Accepted applicants are required to provide evidence of 2015 WHMIS Globally Harmonized System (GHS) certification upon admission into the program. Recertification will be required every three years to remain current. The cost of WHMIS certification is your responsibility.
Mask Fit Test
Current N95 respirator mask testing prior to entry into the clinical/practicum. The cost of N95 respirator mask testing is your responsibility.
Immunization Record
Current immunization information must be submitted prior to the clinical portion of the program starting. You may require further immunization. All costs associated with vaccines are the responsibility of the student.
Criminal Record Check
Criminal record checks are required upon admission to the program and must include a vulnerable sector check. It is at the discretion of the health region whether a student with a criminal record will be allowed to participate in clinical components. You may be declined access to a practicum/clinical based on the contents of the Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search. All costs associated with the criminal record check are the responsibility of the student.
Physical Suitability
Students should have personal and physical suitability. You must exhibit physical strength and fitness consistent with the requirements of professional practice. This will be evaluated within the program.
This occupation requires physical strength, coordination, endurance, and a desire to help people.
Travel Required
Field and clinical practicums may require travel and are the responsibility of the student.
