Suncrest College and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) are working in partnership to provide a high-quality training and evaluation system for professional firefighting, volunteer services, and industrial training within Saskatchewan. Through the formalization of a Memorandum of Agreement, we are excited to announce the creation of the Saskatchewan Emergency Response Institute (SERI) at Suncrest College. SERI is a collaboration of the SPSA’s knowledge and expertise in emergency response and Suncrest’s knowledge and expertise in program development, delivery, and student records.
If you are an industrial company, corporate training for NFPA 1081 Industrial Fire Brigade courses can be requested to meet your schedule and needs. For more information or a quote for service, please contact [email protected] or 306.728.6580.
Training for the incipient facility fire brigade member focuses on the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to safely attack incipient (early stages) fires only. Incipient fire brigade members are not required to wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or thermal protective clothing so they must be able to safely combat a fire without having to enter an environment that is Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH). In this course, students will learn how to fight the fire effectively using only portable fire extinguishers or small handlines. Live fire hands-on scenarios involve the use of portable fire extinguishers, small hand lines, and master streams.
At the end of the course, participants are required to complete a written exam (minimum 70% pass requirement) and practical evaluation. Successful students will receive IFSAC certification issued by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.
Prerequisite: NFPA 470 Hazmat Awareness
Students will learn how to safely respond to an interior structural fire in an industrial facility. Instruction covers the use of required apparatus, techniques, and tools in an industrial setting for a fire of this nature. Through hands-on scenarios, theory and practice, students will develop the ability to master an interior structural fire as a member of the Industrial Fire Brigade Team.
At the end of the course, participants are required to complete a written exam (min 70% pass requirement) and practical evaluation. Successful students will receive IFSAC certification issued by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.
Prerequisites: NFPA 470 Hazmat Operations; NFPA 1081 Incipient
Advanced Exterior Level training is designed to give brigade members the knowledge and skills for fighting exterior industrial fires, including the use of PPE, SCBA, building search and rescue techniques, and advanced exterior firefighting techniques.
At the end of the course, participants are required to complete a written exam (min 70% pass requirement) and practical evaluation. Successful students will receive IFSAC certification issued by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.

The course covers command structure and fireground organization, communications, and strategy and tactics. The Brigade Leader Level includes theory and practical components.
At the end of the course, participants are required to complete a written exam (min 70% pass requirement) and practical evaluation. Successful students will receive IFSAC certification issued by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.

I chose Suncrest College because of the small class sizes and short wait time for admission vs Regina/Saskatoon. The best thing about the PCP program at Suncrest College was the chance to spend more time with instructors.
